About Smokin E’s BBQ

The moment you pull up to 2463 Ripley Street, the aromatic blend of hickory smoke and spices tells you you're in for something special. Their smoking process, perfected over years of dedication, creates that coveted pink smoke ring that barbecue aficionados dream about.

The Signature Flavors at Smokin E's BBQ Tell a Story

The heart of their success lies in their proprietary rub blend and smoking technique. Each piece of meat is carefully selected and treated with a special combination of spices that enhances, rather than masks, the natural flavors. The result is a perfect harmony of smoke, seasoning, and meat that keeps customers coming back for more.

Smokin E's BBQ Delivers Comfort Food Excellence

During my visits, I've been consistently impressed by their diverse menu offerings. The pulled pork literally falls apart at the touch of your fork, while the brisket showcases that perfect balance of tender meat and flavorful bark. Their house-made barbecue sauces, ranging from sweet to tangy to spicy, complement each meat perfectly without overwhelming it.

The Family Tradition Behind Smokin E's BBQ Lives On

Operating Tuesday through Saturday (11:30 AM-5 PM, except Saturdays 12-5 PM), this family-run establishment puts their heart into every dish they serve. The friendly staff treats everyone like family, always ready to help first-timers navigate the menu or recommend their personal favorites.

Local Favorites at Smokin E's BBQ Keep Customers Coming Back

My personal recommendations start with their fall-off-the-bone ribs, which showcase their smoking expertise perfectly. The homemade sides deserve special mention too – from classic mac and cheese to perfectly seasoned collard greens, each complements the main dishes beautifully.

The restaurant was quite overpriced, especially considering the food quality that resembled that of a chain restaurant. My boyfriend and I ordered pulled pork plates and were shocked to see a bill of fifty-two dollars. Despite there being only three customers inside, the two servers appeared to be overwhelmed. While the food arrived quickly, it was only lukewarm. I found it hard to justify paying $17 for a small portion of pulled pork with sides that resembled cafeteria food. With half of the menu items unavailable, the experience was quite disappointing. If possible, I would recommend dining elsewhere for a more satisfying meal and environment.

I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, it was a bit of a chaotic experience right from the start. When we arrived, there was nobody available to seat us, despite being told to wait. After finally being seated, we had to wait quite a while for someone to take our order, and then another long wait for our food. To make matters worse, they were out of many items we tried to order. The food, when it finally arrived, was just average. The kids menu was surprisingly spicy for a child, so they ended up just having fries. Surprisingly, the slow service and issues we faced were not due to the restaurant being busy, but rather just a lackluster experience overall.

Perched above downtown Blue Ridge and the train tracks, Smokin E's BBQ offers a unique dining experience overlooking the bustling plaza below. While enjoying a local beer next door, we couldn't resist trying out their loaded tots topped with brisket. The tots were satisfying, but the brisket was slightly dry. The addition of mac n cheese seemed like a good idea but ended up overpowering the dish. At $17, it was decent but not worth ordering again. The service at the bar was a bit inconsistent, despite the empty setting. However, the location is unbeatable, especially with the shared patio space with the nearby brewery. While we may not actively seek out Smokin E's next time we're in town, we wouldn't completely write it off either.

I was disappointed to discover that they were out of wings at 2 o'clock on a weekend afternoon. Coupled with slow service and high prices, I would not recommend this place. For $28, I only received three small pieces of meat.

My wife and I decided to try out this BBQ joint on a Saturday night while visiting Baton Rouge. The atmosphere and location were nice, and the prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly, but unfortunately, the BBQ was a major disappointment. The brisket was undercooked, chewy, and poorly sliced, with unrendered fat. The chicken was dry and lacked quality. We were so disappointed that we won't be returning as locals. It's important for people to know that our experience wasn't representative of BBQ in the area.

I must admit, I hate to leave negative feedback, but unfortunately, the ribs I had were quite disappointing. They were extremely fatty and it felt like we were left with a pile of bones after we finished. I'm not sure if I just got a bad batch, but I don't think I'll be returning to this place. On the bright side, the onion rings were delicious.

The food at this establishment is just average, nothing extraordinary. The okra seems to be frozen and the baked beans are likely from the brand Bushes. Sometimes the salad ingredients can be a bit lackluster. On the bright side, the service is top-notch and the bar, although limited, offers a nice selection of wine and liquors.

Our experience at this restaurant was just okay, a bit underwhelming. We really enjoyed the outside patio and the live music. The food arrived quickly, and our waitress was nice. For starters, we tried the redneck rolls, which were very filling, earning them 4 stars in my book. Moving on to the main meal, my husband ordered a 2-meat plate. Unfortunately, the beef brisket was super dry, and the chicken was just okay. The mac n cheese received 4 stars, but the Texas toast was overly oily. On the bright side, the fried okra was delicious and earned 5 stars. I opted for the pulled pork, which was good enough for 4 stars. However, the coleslaw was disappointing - very dry and lacking flavor, earning only 1 star. The fries were standard. Overall, we probably won't be returning, but we did appreciate the generous portions of food.

If you don't mind waiting an hour and a half for your barbecue fix, then this spot might just be right up your alley. We decided to go all out and order the FAMILY meal, but were surprised to find that it only came with two small slices of brisket for $28. While the food itself was decent, the long wait time left much to be desired. To top it off, tipping 20 percent or more was strongly encouraged, which felt a bit excessive.

Unfortunately, we were unable to be seated despite there being an available table. We were informed that the table was reserved for larger groups, even though we were the only ones waiting at the time. The hostess was quite rude in explaining this rule to us. However, we found solace in the delicious pizza joint located on the first floor. If you're looking for a great dining experience, we recommend visiting the pizza joint instead.
